Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (SED) Office of the Professions (OP) is seeking candidates for the position of Education Credentials Specialist 1 in the Bureau of Comparative Education. The Bureau of Comparative Education assists the Board of Regents and the Department in the educational review of licensure applicants in the 50+ professions governed under Title 8 of Education Law. Under the general direction of an Education Credentials Specialist 2, the duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist with the evaluation of pre-professional and professional education and training, and exercise independent judgment and make a final determination in less complex cases;
• Analyze credentials received in support of applicants and make judgments regarding authenticity;
• Assist with analyzing and reviewing professional licensing procedures, licensure application materials, and proposed regulations and legislation as they relate to the Office’s function;
• Assist with research and report on Comparative Education matters while maintaining professional relationships with other comparative educational systems and organizations; and
• Advise other state, national, and non-governmental agencies, as well as individuals, concerning established policies, practices and procedures of the Office.




Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointee’s negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position may be filled as a traineeship. The starting salaries for this position are outlined below. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates appointed at the trainee level will be required to successfully complete the traineeship to advance to the full performance level title and salary.

• $46,529 (Trainee 1- NS equated to SG-13)
• $49,202 (Trainee 2- NS equated to SG-14)
• $61,270 (Full Performance level SG-18)

This position leads to a maximum salary of $77,912 based on annual performance advances and traineeship advances.
