*Some titles eligible for transfer require special qualifications, if applicable the special qualifications are: you must be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LLB or JD degree and/or be eligible to take the New York State Bar examination.
55 B/C QUALIFICATIONS:
Individuals certified eligible for the 55 B/C program under the Governor's Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55 B/C of the Civil Service Law will also be considered. To be considered, you must provide a copy of your letter of eligibility with your response.
You must meet the open competitive qualifications from the most recent examination announcement. The open competitive minimum qualifications are: you must be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LLB or JD degree and/or be eligible to take the New York State Bar examination.
Duties Description The Department of State, Office of General Counsel is seeking to establish a senior attorney position to work with staff in the Office of Planning and Development (OPD) with land use, local government law, water law and environmental law. The duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:
• The senior attorney will assist in the preparation and review of legally enforceable waterfront revitalization programs to be submitted by local governments to the Secretary of State for approval and inclusion in the New York State Coastal Management Program pursuant to Executive Law Article 42.
• The senior attorney will provide legal advice and assistance to Office of Planning, Development, and Community Infrastructure staff, municipal officials, and consultants on a broad range of topics involving planning, zoning and local laws.
• The senior attorney may develop or participate in training for Office of Planning, Development, and Community Infrastructure staff on topics of resiliency planning, land use, and drafting waterfront revitalization programs and local laws.
• The senior attorney’s work will also involve drafting legislation and commenting on legislative proposals.
