55 B/C Qualifications: (Same as OC exam qualifications):
This position is designated 55b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Please provide a copy of your 55b/c letter when applying. You must meet the open competitive qualifications from the most recent examination announcement; and be admitted to the New York State Bar as described above.

Reassignment Qualifications:
Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in an Unemployment Insurance Referee (Grade 25) if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Unemployment Insurance Referee (Grade 25) eligible list for this location, if one exists.

52.6 Transfer Qualifications:
One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as a Grade 23 or higher determined to be administrative by Civil Service.

Transfer candidates must also possess a law degree from an accredited college or university and be able to provide evidence of current registration to practice law in New York State

Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:

When assigned to the Hearings Section, Unemployment Insurance Referees are responsible for conducting hearings, evaluating factual information and rendering written decisions, in accordance with the New York State Unemployment Insurance Law, related statutes, and special Federal programs, for claimants or employers appealing initial determinations regarding entitlement to unemployment insurance compensation or liability for unemployment insurance contributions. If assigned to the Appeals Section, Unemployment Insurance Referees review and analyse records and files for cases on appeal, prepare summaries of such cases, and author appeal decisions for the Board.
