Duties Description This position will, under supervision of the Habitat Conservation Unit Leader, help administer the Bureau of Wildlife’s land management and land acquisition program. Goals of the program are to improve and maintain habitat for target species, including the enhancement of habitat for both game and non-game species on both private and public land, and to maintain and improve access for wildlife-dependent recreation with a focus on hunting, trapping and wildlife observation. Duties of this position will focus on: implementing habitat management projects for both game and non-game Species of Greatest Conservation Need on State lands through coordination with Regional staff; assisting in the development and implementation of the Bureau of Wildlife’s land acquisition strategy; assisting Regional staff in the development of contracts for land management; representing the Bureau’s wildlife habitat needs on the NY NRCS State Technical Committee; annual reporting on grants that fund program activities; developing options for private landowners to manage their lands for wildlife and collaborating with Regional bureau staff and other DEC Divisions to accomplish habitat and access management on Bureau land management units. Some overnight travel will be required for field visits, training purposes and meetings with regional staff and partners. As part of the Wildlife Diversity Section, incumbent may also be required to assist other staff involved in the implementation of Wildlife Diversity programs.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
