Minimum Qualifications To be considered for appointment, candidates must be reachable from the proper Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer following Civil Service Law.
If a viable list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
The minimum requirements for taking the Promotional examination are:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State with permanent competitive or non-competitive service (including 55-b/55-c) as:
Engineering Geologist, Engineering Materials Analyst, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetics), Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils).
The minimum requirements for taking the Open Competitive examination are:
Either 1. FOUR years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority;
Or 2. an associate's degree in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronic technology AND TWO years of experience listed above in number 1.
Or 3. a bachelor's degree in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronics technology.
Duties Description The incumbent of this position would be coordinating the region’s support of Tort Notice of Intents (NOIs) and Claims, Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, Small Claims, and assisting in the Department’s Accident Damage Recovery program (ADRP).
Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
• Work closely with the Division of Legal Affairs and the Attorney General’s office in the coordination of Tort NOIs and claims through:
o Compiling discovery requests and providing and coordinating informational exchanges
o Providing information to Attorney General investigators
o Coordinating witnesses and depositions of Regional Employees
• Receive small claims received by the region and distribute them to the appropriate residency, forward the claim and the investigative report to the Main Office claims unit for processing.
• Assist in Regional ADRP as necessary by corresponding with insurances companies to obtain reimbursement for damage to state property.
• Working with the ccmEnterprise application, receive, document, distribute and collect all information regarding FOIL request received by the region.
• Serve as backup for phone coverage.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the Department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Additional Comments *Telecommuting: The Department’s current telecommuting agreement is valid through January 31, 2023 and is subject to extension beyond that date.
