Minimum Qualifications An associate degree with a specialization in Alcoholism, Substance Abuse or Chemical Dependency ~ OR ~ one year of full-time employment in a field requiring the application of communication skills and one year of experience in a direct treatment capacity working in an addiction treatment setting.

Substitutions:
30 college credits in a human services field may be substituted for the one year of communication experience;
10 college credits in specific alcoholism, substance abuse or chemical dependency courses may be substituted for the one year of specialized experience;
150 clock hours of relevant addictions for CASAC credential eligibility may be substituted for the one year of specialized experience.

Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement of this position. Chosen candidate(s) will be added to the mandatory overtime roster, which is utilized on a rotating basis. The MOT is applied during times of emergency, when all other staffing options have been exhausted (volunteers, hourly staff, contracted staff). Our Addiction Treatment Centers (ATCs) operate 24/7/365 programing. Therefore, MOT IS an essential function of this position and is critical to maintaining adequate staffing at all times in order to ensure the health and safety of clients within the facility.

Duties Description The Addictions Counselor Assistant serves as a member of the ATC’s multidisciplinary treatment team and works under the supervision of an Addiction Counselor performing duties related to the care and counseling of clients. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
• Direct care of patients.
• Transporting patients, including admissions using NYS vehicle.
• Search the belongings of new admissions and follow infection control policy and procedures.
• Assist the admissions team with entering referral information into the electronic medical record during the pre-admission process.
• Assist admissions team in communicating with referral sources, scheduling admissions, managing the waitlist, obtaining paperwork from outside agencies, and entering referral information into the electronic medical record during the pre-admission process.
• When needed, assist patients during the admissions process including the completion of required admission paperwork and the entering of admission information into the electronic medical record.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, healthy, and therapeutic environment, including rounds, and activities intended to improve patient care and facility operations.
• When needed, assist with monitoring the therapeutic environment through periodic rounds and roll calls; complete patient searches per ATC protocol, address issues as they arise and report to supervisor.
• Collect specimens for laboratory testing per ATC protocols.
• Assist in patient discharge, obtain patient property that has been placed in storage, call for taxi for transport to bus station as appropriate.
• Serve as a backup to facilitate clinical services, patient community meetings and patient education/lectures and monitor patients during mealtimes.

Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
