Minimum Qualifications G27 - Bachelor's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, statistics, infection control or a related field and five years of professional post-degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master's Degree and four years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field and two years of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the above academic requirements, the candidate should have:
• Current certification in infection control (CIC®).
• Experience using the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) to include familiarity with reporting, definitions, and protocols.
• Proficiency in conducting routine infection surveillance activities in acute care hospital settings.
• Experience in conducting research to reduce healthcare-associated infections in select settings and for targeted infections (e.g., QA/QI studies, surveillance analyses, investigations of rates and unusual occurrences, participation in projects leading to reports/papers).
• Experience providing technical assistance and training to healthcare providers.
• Excellent organizational, training, and written and verbal communication

Duties Description The Research Scientist 4 (RS4) is assigned to the Bureau of Healthcare-Associated Infections (BHAI) Hospital-Acquired Infections Reporting Program (HAIRP) and stationed in the Metropolitan Area Regional Office (MARO), New York, NY. The incumbent will oversee mandated reporting of healthcare-associated infections for acute care hospitals in their assigned region, provide guidance and technical assistance to facilities and other internal and external partners, and conduct independent research related to these activities. Contribute to policy development and scientific literature through epidemiologic activities. Develop, monitor, and evaluate research activities to prevent and control hospital-acquired infections; with major responsibility for all phases of the complete research process including problem definition, planning, execution, analysis, interpretation, reporting of findings, and publish professional papers or reports authored either singly or jointly. Formulating and conducting special studies and independent research is required, including full responsibility for interpreting and reporting findings.
