Minimum Qualifications EITHER: 1) Reachable on the Civil Service eligible list; OR 2) Eligible for reassignment by virtue of having permanent competitive service as a Public Information Specialist 1 (SG-18); OR 3) Eligible for transfer under the provisions of the Civil Service Law by virtue of having one year of permanent competitive service in an appropriate title.
Duties Description The Public Information Specialist 1 will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
· Writing content for NYSTRS newsletters, publications, mass emails, website and other communications strategies. Publications include:
- Brochures, handbooks and fliers
- Financial and investment reports, including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and Popular Annual Financial Report
- Administrative Bulletins and Employer Manual (for employers participating in NYSTRS) and Delegate News (for teachers who serve as delegates)
· Editing and proofreading content produced by the department.
· Working with other NYSTRS departments as applicable to write and/or proofread their communications materials, presentations and reports.
· Assist with the distribution of press releases.
· Other special communications projects and assignments as needed to support the mission of the department in educating internal and external stakeholders.

These positions are eligible for a 60% remote/40% in-office flexible work option as outlined in NYSTRS’ Flexible Work Pilot Program.
Under the direction of the Communications Program Coordinator, the Public Information Specialist 1 is responsible for implementing a communications strategy to communicate with and educate members, participating employers, and external stakeholders using various communications collateral.
