Minimum Qualifications This position will be filled by temporary appointment, without examination, via Section 64.3 of Civil Service Law.
Candidates must have a valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License with current registration and at least 4 years of post-licensure civil engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems.
Duties Description This position will function as the Livingston Avenue Bridge Project Director. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Work collaboratively with other Department Divisions, including Legal, Policy & Planning, Operations and Administration to plan for, implement, and manage project-related initiatives.
• Work with Rail Agencies and Department Rail groups.
• Manage construction contract(s) on a priority project while representing the Department’s interests and reporting to the DCE & DOT Executives.
• Review staff requirements for each phase of the project and arranging for assignment of project personnel.
• Work with consultant design and construction teams to include, engineers, planners, & inspectors making sure project goals are met.
• Maintain effective working relationships with staff and elected officials of regional local governments, and appropriate State officials.
• Resolve project related issues, coordinate with engineering staff, third parties, and other agencies, as necessary.
• Coordinate activities with other project staff, NYSDOT, and public agencies.
• Develop and implement a quality audit program, monitor contractor corrective actions, and ensures a quality project conforming to plans and specifications.
• Direct and monitor the progress of construction contracts; track the delivery of the construction product; participate in all construction meetings; provide direction in the implementation of the construction contract; and direct and monitor compliance with safety codes and all other regulations.
• Develop materials and deliver presentations to Deputy Chief Engineer and DOT Executives.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Additional Comments *Telecommuting: The Department’s current telecommuting agreement is valid through January 31, 2023 and is subject to extension beyond that date.
