Minimum Qualifications This is a transfer opportunity for current New York State employees only who are eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law - Candidates must have permanent status in a title approved for transfer by Civil Service within two salary grades of the Grade 6 level.

Candidates who have not previously served in a keyboarding title must demonstrate adequate keyboarding skills (i.e. the ability to type 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy) by passing the Keyboard Specialist performance test.

Duties Description This is an 18-month Traineeship leading to a SG 9.

This position is in the Watertown Regional office.

•Work directly with assigned staff attorneys to meet office and/or court deadlines; by ensuring that scheduling and briefing dates are met to avoid defaults, call courts about court requirements, and gather materials necessary to meet case requirements, etc.
•Coordinate with attorneys, clerical staff, correctional facilities and court reporting agencies to schedule depositions.
•Produce a variety of legal documents, answers, motions, notice of entry of decisions, etc. Edit and finalize legal work to comply with Court rules and regulations.
•Maintain dockets and/or other case filing systems. Assist with the opening and closing of case files.
•Handle incoming mail and correspondence appropriately; organize and maintain physical files; process travel vouchers.
•Perform all administrative duties related to CLE programs delivered in the office. Set up room for program. Send list of participants to Legal Education & Professional Development Bureau.
•Be responsible for maintaining database for warehouse retention and archiving of case files. Prepare annual list of archived files and schedule shipment to Archives.
•Maintain and update Law Library material.
•Perform general office duties as needed, including scanning, faxing, copying, covering reception desk, etc.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments Upon successful completion of 12 months as Law Dept Document Specialist Trainee 1, you will automatically advance to Law Dept Document Specialist Trainee 2. (SG 8)

Upon successful completion of 6 months as Law Dept Document Specialist Trainee 2, you will automatically advance to Law Dept Document Specialist. (SG 9)
