Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in an organized recreation program, six months of which must have been supervisory.

*NOTE: Individuals appointed provisionally must take and pass a Civil Service examination for this position and be reachable, i.e., be one of the top three (3) candidates on the resulting eligible list willing to accept the position.

Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Regional Recreation Department Coordinator will perform tasks related to the administration and operation of regional and facility recreation programs and services.

1. Assist in the development, coordination, and direct implementation of
regional recreation programs and special events.
2. Daily interaction with upper-level management, facility managers,
sponsors and program participants to ensure the quality of programs
3. Schedules and conducts facility activities and programs
4. Development and update of printed and digital public information materials (included but not limited to park brochures, calendar of events, posters, applications, LI State Park Recreation Facebook page, website publications, etc.)
5. Assist in the solicitation of corporate sponsorships. Develop various sponsorship packages to supplement existing regional operating budget allocation.
Present proposals during corporate sponsorship meetings. Work directly with corporate sponsor to ensure contractual obligations are met
6. Trains subordinate staff assigned on how to deal with inquiries concerning
park information and how to handle patron complaints; when necessary, bring to supervisor’s attention those patron complaints which cannot be resolved at this level.
7. Place and follow up orders for all program supplies, prizes, awards, giveaways, etc. Arrange for timely delivery of same to appropriate location
8. Operates light trucks, passenger vehicles and other small equipment as required
9. Represent Parks at meetings, conferences, and on committees of various professional recreation and public relation organizations
10. Loads, moves, or unloads materials of varying weights and sizes as required in the performance of duties described
11. Collects and accounts for event revenue in assigned area; prepares reports as required
12. Keeps inventory of recreational equipment and supplies
13. May be required to perform public speaking engagements at various community civic organizations, special events, conferences, sponsorship and event planning meetings, etc.
14. Assigns, reviews, trains, and evaluates work of lower-level employees
15. Occasionally prepares seasonal payrolls, timesheets, etc. and/or performs various clerical activities
16. Generate, type, and proofread various correspondence, documents, forms, and other written material for recreation programs and special assignments using Office Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.
17. Perform other related duties as required

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS
Selected candidate must possess a New York State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License by date of appointment and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
Ability to read and understand both written and/or verbal instructions.
Ability to effectively communicate and conduct state business.
Ability to do simple math such as add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Must be available to work weekends, holidays, a variable schedule and overtime as needed.
Preference may be given to individuals with experience in recreation and special event programming.

The posted hiring rate is the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA SG-10 ($41,255) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,026) The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($50,628) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,026)
