Minimum Qualifications Transition- You must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and have had permanent competitive, non-competitive, labor class or 55-b/55-c service as follows:

Either 1. One year in a position allocated to Grade 11 or above;

Or 2. Two years as a Park Worker 3.

OR

Open competitive or Provisional - Six years of experience working in a park or recreational facility* within a park in any two of these functional areas: administration (business, personnel, finance); capital or operational planning; recreational programming; public relations/visitor services; maintenance; or environmental education/interpretation. This experience must have included two years of supervisory experience; Or a bachelor's or higher-level degree in environmental education, environmental management, environmental policy, environmental sustainability, forestry, golf course management, historic preservation, natural resources management, park administration, park management or recreation management AND two years of supervisory experience working in a park or recreational facility* within a park as described in any of the functional areas listed in option 1 above.

*A park or recreational facility within a park is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: ballfields, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming. You must clearly list this information on your application.
Examples of Non-Qualifying degrees for the purposes of these examinations include but not limited to: accounting, anthropology, archaeology, biology, business, history, horticulture, hospitality, physical education, recreation therapy and sports management.

* NOTE: If the candidate meets the minimum qualifications to be provisionally appointed, the candidate must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title. If the candidate does not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, the candidate may not be retained.
The agency may nominate an open-competitive provisionally qualified candidate for a non-competitive examination for permanent appointment under the provisions of Rule 4.2 (b) of the Rules for the Classified Service.

Duties Description Under the general direction of higher-level supervisors, the Park Manager 1 is responsible for all aspects of the management of Marsha P. Johnson State Park including programming and recreational functions during all park operating hours. The Park Manager supervises, directs, manages, and coordinates various levels of staff in recreation, operation, security, and maintenance areas; ensures safe operations of the park and oversees all aspects of seasonal hiring at the Park.

The Park Manager 1 develops and implements programs and/or services for the public. The incumbent handles the logistical support, organization and planning of programming and special events throughout the park, reserve space or equipment to be used in such programs and coordinates as needed directly with outside organizations or individuals to assure the success of such programming. The incumbent will work closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
-Daytime, weekend, holiday, and evening work is required.
-Candidates must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.

-The selected candidate will be expected to occasionally support work assignments in other State Parks throughout the New York City Region.

Salary: $61,270-$77,917 + $3,026 location pay
