Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver’s license required.
Duties Description Ability to perform journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the diagnosis and repair of HVAC&R equipment for both new systems (HVAC, Mechanical and Electrical Systems) and existing systems’; ability to competently use various trade tools including computers, hand-held devices, testing instruments, hand tools, small and large power tools, cutting tools, large operating equipment, and electrical and mechanical equipment and devices; basic mathematical skills and blue print and schematic literacy required; ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, carrying ladders and materials; ability to work in areas of heat and cold (indoors and outdoors), working from ladders, scaffolds and lifts, work at heights up to 25’ and in confined spaces; working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes (OSHA and ADA); plan and execute assignments with considerable independence, work overtime as required for emergencies and campus events; ability to work with a computerized maintenance management system; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator, pass a fit test and use other personal protective equipment related to the job duties; ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing when assigning work and providing instructions; ability to determine repairs and replacement of equipment, plan work, organize apprentices and helpers with materials and equipment for projects and maintain stocked inventory of materials required; willingness to attend training on new equipment and building systems; Valid New York State driver's license required.
