Minimum Qualifications For appointment to Rehabilitation Assistant 1, SG-11
Candidates must be reachable on the Paraprofessional Careers in Mental Hygiene eligible list. After two years of satisfactory service as a Rehabilitation Assistant 1, SG-11, the appointee will advance to Rehabilitation Counselor 2, SG-14, without further examination;

Candidates must be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law by having one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of Rehabilitation Assistant 1, SG-11.

Duties Description This position will serve as the YES! Coordinator. The Youth Empowerment Strategies (YES!) training provides a consistent framework for creating a facility-wide therapeutic milieu in which all staff members actively serve as potent therapeutic agents. YES! Encompasses all aspects of behavioral learning, from teaching new or difficult skills to providing increased positive supports during stressful experiences. The objective is to teach skills (social skills, self-management skills, and problem solving skills) that will result in positive long-term outcomes for the child.
• Oversee and monitor implementation of YES! at the facility.
• Provide YES! Coaching and oversight for YES! Coaches.
• Discuss implementation of the YES! program with other Statewide YES! Coordinators and participate in bi-monthly calls.
• Organize Roundtable Meetings with a multidisciplinary advisory group to monitor and discuss the implementation of the YES! model.
• Participate in patient specific behavioral planning discussions and implementation.
• Identify motivation systems that can be used for individual and group participation in treatment, including managing YES! motivation systems funds and store supplies.
• Coordinate and respond to REDSTONE (clinical crisis) events and drills when on duty.
Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC) which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
