Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidate must have four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Candidates must also possess a valid New York State driver's license.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Trades Generalist position in the New York State School for the Blind (NYSSB). Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Inspect all interior and exterior aspects of campus buildings by following all current Building Codes and Safety Standard procedures;
• Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems and motor equipment;
• Perform repairs and maintain knowledge of the fire alarm system and components;
• Move, ship, and receive supplies;
• Lay out work projects, set up areas for new construction, and work with contractors;
• Order supplies and equipment; and
• Assist maintenance staff, as required.


Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, 12-month appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $56,324 based on annual performance advances.
