Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Library Clerk 2.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.

Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have graduated from high school or be in possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND have one year of library clerical experience OR 30 college semester credit hours, of which at least nine (9) college semester credit hours MUST be in any combination of the following: library/information science, computer applications, or information studies.







Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for a Library Clerk 2 position in the Manuscripts and Special Collections (MSC) Unit within the NYS Library. The incumbent of this position will work under direct supervision of a Senior Librarian in the MSC Unit and must be able to bend, reach, stoop, lift and push heavy book carts, sometimes in dusty environments. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Retrieve materials from the library stacks for on-site and off-site researchers;
• Retrieve materials from the library stacks to fulfill interlibrary loan requests;
• Scan materials for researchers;
• Ensure materials are shelved properly and stored or housed properly on the shelves;
• Provide direct public service to a diverse public in person and over the telephone by staffing the designated registration desk;
• Shift collections, as necessary; and
• Shelf-read, as time allows.




Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment or temporary provisional appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. This will be a temporary provisional appointment. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Library Clerk 2 when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position leads to a maximum salary of $47,968 based on annual performance advances.
