Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in large-scale cooking, one year of which must have included regular supervision of subordinate employees or working inmates. A valid drivers' license is preferred.

Duties Description Camp Cooks prepare and cook a variety of foods such as meats, fish, vegetables, fruits, salads, and baked goods in the kitchen of a NYSDEC environmental education Summer Camp. Camp Cooks prepare and cook food, supervise a kitchen staff in meal preparation and cooking, and also in the cleaning of the kitchen and pantry areas. The Camp Cook may live on site and be part of the 24-hour Sunday-Friday camp program. The camp cook is responsible for the planning, cooking and serving (60-70 people) for all camp meals. In addition, the cook maintains all kitchen and dining hall supplies, materials and equipment. They must be neat, reliable, punctual, flexible and responsible. The cook must be able to prepare menus and order
food within a strict budget. They also must have knowledge of nutritional dietary needs of campers and be familiar with New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulations pertaining to storage, preparation and serving food.

Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 8/23/2023. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
