Minimum Qualifications Five or more years of experience in the following:
• Managing IBM AIX servers
• Working with the following clustering technologies: IBM PowerHA, GPFS and Oracle RAC.
• Utilizing IBM Hardware Management Console
• Setting up and managing VIO servers
• Using an IBM NIM server and patching server
The following degrees, preferably in Computer Science, may substitute for the general experience as indicated:
• Associate’s degree and four years of IT experience
• Associate’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and three years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and two years of experience
• Master’s degree in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional year of experience
• Doctorate in computer science or related field substitute for an additional 2 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Possess understanding and have considerable experience with pSeries virtualization, PowerVM, and AIX system performance monitoring and troubleshooting
• Experience with configuration and advanced troubleshooting techniques with SAN attached storage including both EMC and IBM subsystems.
• Hands on experience with IBM 880, 980,1080 power systems.
Duties Description Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 4, SG-25, the Project Assistant, SG-NS, will support the Division's IBM pSeries platform within the Chief Technology Office's Data Center Services (DCS) bureau. The incumbent will respond to incidents and implement proactive measures to minimize service interruptions. The incumbent will be responsible for IBM AIX system support activities and serve as specialist/liaison, to ensure the progress, timeliness and quality of assignments. This position will also be responsible for project management, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), security compliance, patch management, platform migration, change management, and effective communication to help make informed decisions with the State Agencies and their customers best interest in mind.
Under the direction of the Director of Data Center Service (DCS), this position will be a part of the DCS Unix AIX team. The candidate must be able to multi-task and work under pressure to yield high quality results in a short time frame. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform installation, administration, testing, and maintenance of IBM pSeries hardware and AIX v6 and v7 Operating Systems.
• Coordinate with vendors in hardware installation and ensures that repair and preventative maintenance procedures are followed for the agency's IBM pSeries hardware and AIX Operating Systems.
• Perform DCH AIX tasks including, but not limited to, AIX user account administrations, software installations and upgrades, performance monitoring and tuning, storage maintenances and troubleshooting.
• Support and manage high-availability systems configured in PowerHA, Oracle RAC, and/or GPFS clusters.
• Develop scripts to automate routine system admin tasks.
• Provide backup supports for IBM MKSYSB and Commvault enterprise backup software.
• Coordinate, respond, and process incident tickets, service requests, and changes control items.
• Support development and implementation of technology solutions to improve AIX server access, response, and stability.
• Prepare, collect, update, and distribute documentation, inventory, logs, work plans, and/or system and maintenance reports.
• Work with ITS and external agency staff to support the appropriate deployment and operation of IT systems in the AIX environment.
• Assist with and organize initiatives using proven project management techniques, including, but not limited to, project planning, risk assessment, and team guidance and supervision.
• Participate in meetings and work with agency management, users, vendors, consultants, and IT staff to discuss IT solution options and assist in recommending appropriate system platforms for meeting program requirements.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with NYS ITS staff, external agency staff, project managers, and executive level staff.
• Document systems and procedures appropriately, meets NYS OITS standards, and follows generally accepted IT practices.
Additional Comments Location: This position may also be filled in New York City.
Salary: To be determined, commensurate with experience.
