Duties Description This position coordinates and implements Region 6 amphibian and reptile diversity programs, including conservation of Blanding's turtles, and coordinates spruce grouse recovery efforts. Incumbent will provide technical review of project proposals that may impact these species, including energy projects reviewed through the SEQR process, Articles 7 & 10, and 94(c), in coordination with Division of Environmental Permits, Bureau of Ecosystem Health, and Central Office Wildlife Unit, and will be required to represent the Department in regulatory proceedings and provide testimony in support of the Department's conservation programs, as needed. Review of Special License applications involving these species will also be required. Incumbent will also design and implement regional wildlife diversity projects through species-specific research and monitoring programs, collect, manage, and analyze data, convey research findings through reports, presentations, and technical advice, and serve as a member of the statewide Amphibian and Reptile Diversity Team. Knowledge of listed and other rare species and their habitat requirements within NYS is required.

Incumbent will also serve on the statewide Wildlife Health Team and be responsible for the management of three Wildlife Management Areas in St. Lawrence County requiring creation of annual work plans, development of work requests as needed, monitoring and reporting on work completion, and habitat management. Support of all other Region 6 Wildlife unit work will also be required including game management activities.

Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively with the public, respond to written or verbal requests for wildlife-related information, work collaboratively with outside partners, and coordinate with Regional and Central Office staff to complete program tasks. Incumbent will also provide direct supervision and assignment of work to permanent and/or seasonal Fish & Wildlife Technicians, as assigned. Supervisory tasks include initiating seasonal paperwork, developing employee performance programs, completing evaluations, and approving leave requests, time and activity accounting (LATS), and travel accounting reports (FMIS), as needed.
