Duties Description The Professional Engineer 2 (Environmental) will assume all responsibilities and perform all tasks, assignments and activities of the Regional Water Engineer (RWE) in the RWE's absence. All activities so undertaken shall be reported to the RWE upon his return. Provide direct supervision of assigned Regional Water program staff. Deliver practical, technical and procedural guidance to staff to assist them in performing their duties with the goal of maximizing each staff member's ability to work independently. Support professional and personal development of program staff. Oversee the SPDES permit program, including the application process and drafting of new and modified permits assigned to the Region. Coordinate permitting activities with the Division of Environmental Permits and provide assistance as required to expedite permitting procedures. Oversee enforcement activities of facilities when in non-compliance with Division enforced provisions of the ECL or applicable regulations.

Respond to inquiries from other DEC programs, other State or Federal agencies, consulting engineers, the public, and private industries concerning the activities associated with the water program as appropriate.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
