Minimum Qualifications Transfer Opportunity: NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 3 (G-19) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiar with the specialized needs of a health-related and/or laboratory facility. Proficient with general energy conservation methodology in a laboratory facility, laboratory capital equipment, specialized HVAC systems, and building management systems and familiar with systems necessary to provide laboratory services, i.e., deionized water, specialty gases, and vacuum systems. Experience overseeing preventive maintenance programs and emergency response efforts in case of plant system and/or utility provider failures, back-up power and generator systems. Experience with shift work and supervising multiple employees, as well as coordination of contract employees and employee training. Experience with arc flash and lockout-tagout procedures.
Duties Description Plant Maintenance and Operations staff ensure the safe operation of the Center's two campuses, including two utility plants. The Plant Utility Engineer 3 (PUE 3) will be assigned to Griffin Laboratory (GL) and will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the safe operation of the 20 buildings across the GL campus, including high pressure boilers, chillers, clean steam generation, HVAC, emergency generators, energy management, and rounds to monitor equipment, building systems and life safety systems. Staff coverage is required 365/24/7 with multiple engineers per shift to ensure safe operations.
