Minimum Qualifications To be eligible Candidates must be:
1.License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State or a New York State limited permit and licensure in another state or Canada;
AND
2. Certification in Psychiatry issued by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or equivalent certifying body;
AND
3. Seven years of experience providing services to people diagnosed with mental illness, two years of which must have included supervising physicians and other clinical staff responsible for the delivery of treatment services; providing direction to staff regarding program objectives and the implementation of policy; and providing guidance to various clinical specialists.
Duties Description The Clinical Director serves as the Chief Medical Officer of SBPC.
The Clinical Director is responsible for the administration, oversight, evaluation, and continuous improvement of all psychiatric, medical, and contracted medical services provided by staff and consultants of the psychiatric center. The Clinical Director participates in overall executive management and strategic plan development. The Clinical Director supervises the credentialing and privileging process of clinicians, and has primary responsibility for developing, updating, and implementing clinical policies and procedures and together with the other members of the Executive Cabinet, ensures that SBPC is in compliance with all Office of Mental Health (OMH), Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS), The Joint Commission (TJC) and other external accrediting bodies’ standards, rules and regulations. Ultimately, the Clinical Director ensures that the clinical mission of the facility is successfully aligned with the overall mission of OMH to promote the mental health and well-being of all New Yorkers so that they can reach their ultimate goal of recovery. Applicants should be knowledgeable in recovery-oriented care, transitions of care across the inpatient-outpatient continuum, have familiarity with academic affiliations, and have an interest in implementing innovative best practices.
Additional Comments South Beach Psychiatric Center (SBPC) is seeking a dynamic recovery-oriented psychiatrist to fill the position of Clinical Director, Psychiatric Center, who will be the Chief Medical Officer of a flagship facility of a nationally renowned public mental health system with inpatient, outpatient, residential, and crisis-based services for adult and child clients in New York City. A successful applicant will have strong leadership skills to promote high quality evidence-based psychiatric services; proven experience in the field of behavioral health treatment; and a passion for working with individuals with serious mental illness. The Clinical Director promotes culturally competent, person-centered practice and interdisciplinary professional team functioning. Moreover, the Clinical Director is closely associated with New York University (NYU) School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry as SBPC is a training site for NYU trainees. As such, there is opportunity for this applicant to have a clinical appointment to NYU.
SBPC is a New York State operated, Joint Commission (TJC) accredited, mental health facility located in a brand-new, modern $250 million facility overlooking the bay of New York City on the eastern shore of Staten Island, New York. SBPC is a teaching site for psychiatry for Richmond University Medical Center. SBPC offers a comprehensive continuum of care of behavioral health services to adults and adolescents living in the boroughs of Brooklyn (the fastest growing borough in NYC) and Staten Island. SBPC’s facilities serve state of the art, recovery-oriented, patient-centered behavioral health treatment to 3,500 individuals. SBPC’s services include inpatient care (225 adult inpatient beds and 10 adolescent inpatient beds); a new inpatient unit devoted to medically complex individuals; psychiatric rehabilitation services; three Transitional Living Residences; and a wide range of community-based services including four outpatient clinics in Brooklyn, one outpatient clinic and a Children and Youth Day Treatment Program on campus in Staten Island, mobile outreach, and Assertive Community Treatment teams. SBPC also operates specialized treatment programs serving LGBTQ+ clients and monolingual patients. Recently, SBPC has worked through a partnership with New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University to build an OnTrackNY program, a first-in-the-nation mental health treatment program for individuals between ages 18-30 that is recovery-focused, bolsters equity, inclusion, and rapid access into mental health services. Moreover, SBPC is a leader in other best practices such as Cognitive Therapy for Recovery, Cognitive Remediation to Promote Recovery, and other innovative programs.
All services provided by SBPC are delivered in a respectful, safe, and caring environment with a primary focus on hope and recovery. SBPC promotes a system of care in which treatment, rehabilitation and recovery are realized through ongoing collaboration with patients, their families, and the service providers within the facility’s catchment area. Emphasis is on services that are person centered, strength and evidence-based, and that recognize the importance of individual preferences.
SBPC is a short drive from the Verrazano Bridge and is accessible via public transportation. The area surrounding SBPC offers a variety of attractions, including a boardwalk and beach with views of New York City, the Staten Island Zoo, museums, the Ocean Breeze Fishing Pier, and over 170 parks and natural areas.
