Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the NYS CSEA Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is preferred, but not required, for these positions.

*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.

Based on federal and/or state regulations, this position requires vaccination against COVID-19. Upon appointment, the selected candidate must be fully vaccinated, or willing to become fully vaccinated, against COVID-19 and will be required to provide proof of vaccination. Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill six Maintenance Assistant, Grade 9 positions within the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located in the New York City area. These positions are part of the Downstate Special Projects team, which is responsible for completing capital funded projects at various facilities within the New York City and Long Island area.

Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in one or more of the mechanical (HVAC), carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and masonry trades.
• Work under the direction of a field supervisor and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Possess working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades to which assigned.
• Perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
• May climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms, and in confined spaces.
• Demonstrate the ability to adhere to OSHA safety standards.
• May be expected to qualify to use a negative pressure (N95) respirator.
• Team travel within the assigned region to multiple OMH facilities.

Additional Comments This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,087.
