Open competitive minimum qualifications provided for 70.4 transfer eligible candidates:
Possession of a New York State Professional Engineer's License with current registration AND one year of engineering experience in the design and construction of parks, roads, bridges, recreational facilities, water and or wastewater treatment facilities.
Under New York State Education guidelines, all professional engineers must practice only in their area(s) of competency or they may be subject to disciplinary action.
Duties Description The Facility Compliance Section in the Bureau of Technical Support (BTS) is seeking to hire a Professional Engineer 1 (Environmental). The preferred candidate would have experience in the management of petroleum and chemical bulk storage facilities and would have a thorough understanding of the applicable State and Federal laws and regulations. Strong communication skills are essential since the position would involve coordination of programs in the nine DEC Regional offices.
The job would include work in the Chemical Bulk Storage, Petroleum Bulk Storage, Major Oil Storage Facility (MOSF), and Liquified Natural Gas programs. The Professional Engineer 1 will need to ably manage ongoing, high-profile projects.
The candidate will be responsible for various on-going, complex projects including regulatory and legislative rule makings, the provision of technical guidance for DEC staff and the regulated community, implementation of state-wide registration and inspection programs, and the decommissioning of MOSFs.
The candidate will be responsible to coordinate staff across all nine DEC regions to promote regulatory consistency across the State. The candidate will be required to understand the intricacies of the various Local, State, and Federal codes, laws, and regulations and interpret and apply them consistently. This includes, but is not limited to, working closely with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, other Local and State agencies, and Indian tribes.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
