Duties Description Assist the Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Section by providing technical expertise to communities and managing ReLeaf Committee activities in DEC Regions 4 and 5.

Assist in developing and implementing statewide programing and initiatives to encourage use of urban forestry practices and development of urban forestry programs at the local level. Work closely with regional staff as needed.
Duties:
• Co-Chair and manage Regional ReLeaf programs in regions 4 and 5, including working with volunteer co-chairs, facilitating committee planning, workshops, and outreach activities.
• Provide technical assistance to municipalities, local schools and others in Regions 4 and 5 on topics such as urban forestry grants, Arbor Day Foundation programs, planting programs, Arbor Day events, best management practices in tree planting and care, and other community forestry issues.
• Increase local participation in the DEC UCF program.
• Assist in the development and implementation of statewide urban forestry programs such as storm resilience, natural areas, backyard woods programs and new grant programs.
• Prepare technical reports for the Urban Forestry program, UCF Technical Coordinator, executive and the public on community forestry matters.
• Manage data (GIS, spreadsheets, digital forms) and databases as necessary.
• Work closely with regional staff as needed. Occasional travel to regional offices may be required.
• When needed, assist other programs that overlap with urban and community forestry program goals.

The ideal candidate will have a desire to work cooperatively with others, excellent written and oral communication skills, and experience working with municipal staff, elected officials and volunteers, and not-for-profit partners.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
