Duties Description The Environmental Program Specialist 1 (EPS 1) with the Bureau of Air Quality Planning, Mobile Source and Climate Change Planning Section will support the development of air quality plans, state regulations and emissions inventories as part of the Department’s mission to improve air quality and address climate change. The EPS 1 will support the development, drafting, proposal and adoption of air quality plans and regulations that are needed to address the requirements of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, bring areas in New York State into attainment with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, and in support of statewide emissions inventory development.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Provide technical assistance in support of regulatory and inventory development.
• Collect and review data.
• Prepare technical reports.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate degree or course work in the life or physical sciences (atmospheric science, biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, coastal resources management, environmental science, environmental engineering, geography, geology, natural resources) is preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in Microsoft Excel and Access software programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• able to operate a computer and possess a working knowledge of standard and higher level Department/Division computer programs;
• good organization, written and verbal communication skills;
• able to represent supervisor in absence in dealing with division administrative and technical staff on day-to-day basis;
• able to attend staff meetings and give presentations;
• able to develop and maintain good working relationships.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
