A bachelor's or higher degree in agricultural engineering, agriculture, agronomy, animal science, atmospheric science, biological science, biology, botany, chemical engineering, chemical science, chemistry, civil engineering, conservation biology, ecology, ecosystem management, environmental biology, environmental engineering, environmental health, environmental planning, environmental science, environmental studies, environmental toxicology, forest science, forestry, geography, geological engineering, geology, horticulture, hydrology, landscape architecture, mining, mining engineering, natural resources, natural resources conservation, natural resources management, natural resources planning, natural science, petroleum engineering, physics, urban forestry, wildlife biology, wildlife science, or zoology.
55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications above and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.
Duties Description Responsible for the regulation of the mining industry under the Mined Land Reclamation Law (MLRL), State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR), and Uniform Procedures Act (UPA). Duties include performing complex technical and environmental reviews of mining and reclamation plans and procedures, investigating complaints, approving or denying reclamation work, performing on-site inspections, referring enforcement cases to DEC legal staff, maintaining the mined land reclamation program database and files, and compiling records for responses to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests. The candidate must be able to read and interpret maps and cross sections, provide technical recommendations in the field, and be able to communicate with a diverse range of people.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
