Minimum Qualifications High school diploma; and either one year of experience in dental assisting or graduation from an accredited program in dental assisting.

*Incumbents of positions that perform sterilization duties may be required to possess current certification by a nationally accredited central sterile technician credentialing organization as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician, or a substantially equivalent credential.

Duties Description The dental assistant will assist the dentists and the dental hygienist in the Article 16 dental office and satellite clinics. This dental assistant will work in the Article 16 Dental Clinic to help support the needs of approximately 1000 individuals across a 10-county area. The dental assistant will perform all the allowable services in accordance with Section 6606 of the New York State Education Law, under the direct supervision of the licensed dentists. Computer skills and travel to satellite locations is necessary.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary duties for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Additional functions include handling and manipulating various dental instruments and pieces of apparatus in order to assist the dental practitioners (dentist and hygienist) in the examination and treatment of patients in the Article 16 dental clinic treatment offices. The dental assistant will also provide patient and caregiver education, take preliminary health histories to be reviewed by the practitioners, maintain and sterilize equipment and keep clinical records of conditions and treatments and simple clinical records of appointment and accounts.
