Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Duties Description As a Professional Engineer 1 in Construction, the selected candidate will be assigned either as an Engineer-in-Charge on one or more projects of moderate to high complexity or to the Regional Office as the Regional Office Engineer, as determined by the Regional Construction Engineer and dependent on program needs. As an Engineer-in-Charge, the selected candidate would be responsible for all aspects of administering the contract, including inspection and quality assurance of the contractor’s work; processing change orders and payment estimates; review of contract documents; coordination with Department personnel, other agencies and the public; and supervision of assigned staff. As the Regional Office Engineer, the selected candidate could be responsible for administrative tasks; change order review; management of resources; coordination with other Department personnel, other agencies and the public; and review of contract documents.
Overnight assignments, night work and weekend work may be required to support construction operations. All positions described above could also include the supervision of State and/or consultant inspection staff and may require you to report to remote office, plant and construction sites which are not on public transportation routes. At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, candidates must be able to demonstrate their ability to meet the travel requirements of the position either by possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or access to reliable transportation.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
