Duties Description The position for Professional Engineer 4 (Environmental) in Region 1 is for oversight of DER and DAR programs. The position is located in the Regional Headquarters in Stony Brook, New York. Responsibilities include the following:
1. Provide policy oversight, management and leadership to Region 1 Divisions of Environmental Remediation (DER), and Air Resources (DAR) programs including the development and support of work plans and budgets, the timely completion of correspondence responses, and appropriate priority setting.
2. Direct supervision of DER and DAR program managers and indirect supervision of their staff including performance reviews, workload distribution, internal controls, and training and development. Assist with personnel matters such as hiring, promoting and/or disciplinary process.
3. Serve as principal liaison between DER, and DAR units and the Regional Director and Assistant Regional Director, Regional Engineers, Division Management, Executive staff, and program managers from Office of General Counsel, Permits, Natural Resources, and Operations, representatives of federal, state and local agencies and the public where appropriate.
4. Participate in, manage and supervise special projects as directed by the Regional Director including, emergency response, CLCPA implementation, permitting projects and enforcement cases.
5. Communicate in a positive and efficient manner with internal and external
constituents including media, local, state and federal elected officials, municipalities,
businesses, professional groups, environmental and community groups.
6. Advise the Regional Director, Assistant Regional Director and Executive staff of sensitive issues, identify and resolve issues effectively.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
