Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, HVAC, and/or auxiliary plant utilities equipment in commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities.
Duties Description As a semiskilled employee, performs the more routine, repetitive tasks in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and mechanical equipment inside and outside of a physical plant such as stationary steam or high temperature hot water boilers. Incumbents may also perform journey-level activities, under supervision, or after receiving detailed instructions, to learn and perfect their skills. Monitors equipment consoles. Performs preventive maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems. Performs minor repairs such as replacing worn gaskets, changing belts and tightening joints, and assisting Plant Utilities Engineers 1 in the maintenance and overhaul of boilers and in the repair of stationary equipment. Performs semiskilled plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration work, and skilled work in these areas under supervision, or after receiving detailed instructions.
Additional Comments Starting Salary of $40,193 for the SG-9. Add 75 cents per hour hazard duty pay per hour worked paid quarterly. $575 Inconvenience Pay is additional compensation paid to an employee who is required to work four or more hours between 6 PM and 6 AM in a regular tour of duty.

All individuals appointed to Plant Utilities Engineer positions will be required to satisfactorily complete a probationary period of 52 weeks, which begins at the time of permanent appointment. During probation, appointees will complete a training and development program that includes on the job training and carefully designed and monitored work experience.
