Duties Description As a Dentist 1, you would do extractions, restorations, prosthetics, root canal therapy, prophylaxis, and limited periodontics; administer local anesthesia; examine and chart the dental condition of patients; take and interpret dental x rays; perform oral surgery; and treat oral diseases and infections. Where appropriate the Dentist may provide oral hygiene instruction. You would have responsibility, usually under the advisory direction of a higher ranking dentist, for the regular examination, treatment, and complete dental care of patients in a State facility. You may be the only dentist in a small facility.
Additional Comments Starting Salary of $139,246 for the SG-30 and Geographic Pay Differential=$35,000. Add 75 cents per hour hazard duty pay per hour worked paid quarterly. $575 Inconvenience Pay is additional compensation paid to an employee who is required to work four or more hours between 6 PM and 6 AM in a regular tour of duty.

If you fail to maintain your license and/or registration once you are appointed, action will be taken to remove you from the position. If you are appointed and lose your license or current registration, your employment may be terminated.
All individuals appointed to Dentist 1 positions will be required to satisfactorily complete a probationary period of 52 weeks, which begins at the time of permanent appointment. During probation, appointees will complete a training and development program that includes on the job training and carefully designed and monitored work experience.
