Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Preferred trades include experience in electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing.

A person appointed to this title will be required to have, or to obtain a CDL-B license as a condition of satisfactory completion of the probation period.

Duties Description Develops and adapts preventative maintenance schedules and periodically checks and services all types of building equipment and systems.

Performs minor, and when required, major repairs and adjustments to equipment.

Controls emergencies, such as electrical malfunctions and other hazardous conditions; locates malfunctions by tracing blueprints and diagrams of electrical, pneumatic and other systems.

Recommends the need for major repairs, installation of new equipment, rearrangement of existing equipment, any additional manpower and specialized tools required to do the job.

May assist or direct Division journey-level workers from Division Building crew in the performance of their duties when required in the Administration Building.

Coordinates and schedules daily maintenance activities and takes appropriate steps to resolve related problems. Periodically inspects equipment.

Maintains inspection records, stock part identification, “break down” reports, diary or log entries and tool complement records; plans, forecasts and requests stock parts and supplies needed to make repairs and replacements.

May be required to supervise journey-level workers and other maintenance employees assigned to Headquarters on an emergency basis or for special projects.

Additional Comments This is a NYS Thruway Authority Unit 1 Teamsters position:

Vacation, Sick and Personal Accruals.
Sick Leave is credited at the rate of one-half day each biweekly pay period up to a total of 165 days.
Sick Leave Incentive Plan – Employees who have not accumulated 165 sick days and have not used sick leave during the periods of January 1st to June 30th or July 1st to December 31st, each year, may receive two days of pay for each six-month period. Employees who have a sick leave balance of 165 days, and continuously maintain that balance for each six-month period, may receive four days of pay for each six-month period.
Employees with 20+ years of continuous Authority/State service may receive up to an additional five days of vacation leave accruals annually.
Membership in the New York State and Local Retirement System, as well as optional enrollment in the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.
Tuition Assistance Program which reimburses 90% of tuition costs for approved courses up to 15 credit hours per year.
New York's 529 College Savings Program, which provides New York families with a tax-advantaged way to save for college.
Flexible Spending Program, which allows employees to set aside pre-tax payroll deductions for eligible health care and dependent care expenses.
Service Award Payments - Upon completion of 10 years of Authority service, eligible employees will receive a 10-year Service Award Payment. Payments are then awarded every five years as noted in the contract until 30 years of Authority service is reached. Service Awards have a positive impact on retirement.
Employees are paid bi-weekly, with no lag time.
Some positions will be eligible for downstate and/or geographical pay depending on location and title.
