Minimum Qualifications Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Professional Engineer 1 (Environmental), Grade 24, OR a New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title eligible for transfer, via 70.1, to a Professional Engineer 1 (Environment), Grade 24.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have familiarity with drinking water regulations including drinking water infrastructure design and construction standards. They will have the ability to prioritize work and effectively manage multiple projects and programmatic tasks in a fast-paced environment. They will be able to communicate effectively with operators and local health department officials and other State agencies and will be able to work independently to complete assigned project tasks.



Duties Description The Professional Engineer 1 (Environmental) will manage the District Office’s program and approve engineering plan submissions. They will assist the District Office by completing plan reviews, performing sanitary surveys of public water systems (PWSs), regulating PWSs and mass gatherings, providing technical assistance to staff and the public, and issuing violations/enforcement actions to noncompliant facilities.

Additional Comments Full-time, permanent appointment. Transfer candidates, you may be asked for a Social Security Number to verify your transfer eligibility. Occasional travel throughout New York State to areas not served by public transportation may be required (30%).

A $1,543 negotiated Mid-Hudson adjustment will be added to the salary.
