Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment, reinstatement, transfer or 55 b/c appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Minimum Qualifications for appointment to Engineer Trainee, NS:

A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Civil Engineering Technology; Construction Engineering; Construction Engineering Technology; Construction Management Engineering Technology; Geotechnical Engineering; Hydraulics Engineering; Materials Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; Metallurgical and Materials Engineering; Structural Engineering; Transportation Engineering or Transportation Planning and Engineering.
OR
Proof of successful completion of a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.

Minimum Qualifications for appointment to Assistant Engineer (Civil), G-20:

Proof of successful completion of a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
AND
One year of engineering experience in the design and construction of parks, roads, bridges, recreational facilities, water and or wastewater treatment facilities.

Individuals appointed as an Engineer Trainee are required to complete a minimum of one year of successful performance as an Engineer Trainee and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. If you pass the FE by the end of the first year, you may be advanced to the Grade 20 Assistant Engineer (Civil) title without further examination. If you do not pass the FE by the end of the second year of the traineeship, you will be terminated from your position.

Duties Description - Under general supervision, assist with project development and design activities including site surveys, CAD drawings, calculations, quantity takeoffs, selection of equipment and materials, and other project management tasks.
- Provide engineering support to higher level engineers and energy professionals in the evaluation, design and implementation of energy reduction and decarbonization projects.
- Supervise active construction projects and contracts, perform and document formal construction inspections, evaluate contractor performance.
- Perform project management tasks including attending scoping meetings, preparing scoping documentation, preparing project cost estimates, communication with contractors and other project staff, respond to questions and RFIs from contractors, coordination of project closeout.
- Assist in the review and approval of project cost proposals from the Department's contractors.
- Review and recommend approval of contractor payment applications.
- Assist Regional management with Job Order Contract workflow and project identification/scoping.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
