Minimum Qualifications Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis
or
Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at salary grade 13 or higher and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent competitive service as a Fish & Wildlife Technician 2.

Duties Description Duties will include: Coordinate with regional biologists to create annual field schedule and assign staff to complete projects throughout the season. Prep equipment for fisheries survey work or assign as needed. Maintain fisheries equipment and boats. Must be a Certified Pesticide license holder to assist with sea lamprey control across NYS and for brook trout restoration projects. Be familiar with water resources of DEC Region 5 and proficient in identifying regional fish species and how to survey for them. Complete data processing, analysis and report preparation in coordination with biologist. As needed draft or assist in drafting technical briefs.

Maintain inventory of and conduct annual inspections of barrier dams, perform maintenance as needed, including re-construction. DEC chainsaw certification required. Perform carpentry, electrical and plumbing repairs on fisheries equipment as needed. Be able to operate canoes, boats, diagnose boat motor problems, trailer equipment and oversee use of fisheries mini-pool of vehicles in the Ray Brook office.

Technician will have supervisory responsibilities in both offices. Must have good communication (oral, written) skills. Experience interacting with the public a plus. Assist in the preparation of media brochures; develop, and display public presentations. Must be able to take and follow directions, but also have the ability to work alone. Must be able to work occasional weekends or at night. Some travel will be required. Must be able to fly in helicopters.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
