Minimum Qualifications To be considered for appointment, candidates must be reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible Investigator 2 list or be eligible for re-assignment, transfer, or promotion in accordance with Civil Service Law.

To be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law, candidates must have at least one year of permanent service in Excise Tax Investigator 2, Investigative Officer 2 Unemployment Insurance, Investigative Specialist 1 or Investigator 2 License;

Or

If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. The minimum requirements for taking the examination are:

One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Investigator 1, Investigator 1 (Chinese Language), Investigator 1 (Korean Language), Investigator 1 (Spanish Language), Investigator, Investigator (Spanish Language), License Investigator 1, License Investigator 1 (Chinese Language), License Investigator 1 (Korean Language), License Investigator 1 (Spanish Language), Compensation Claims Investigator 1, or Rent Administration Investigator 1

Duties Description Under the direction of the Chief Investigator, the incumbent will conduct investigations of alleged criminal activity, misconduct, and other wrongdoing within the Department of Transportation, as well as investigations into any entity or individual conducting business with NYSDOT. Duties will include but is not limited to:

• the review of complaints, development of investigative plans, conducting interviews and interrogations, performing surveillance, data analysis, evidence gathering, report writing, and testifying at trials and administrative hearings.
• Additional duties will include conducting joint investigations with Federal, State and local authorities.
• Leading an investigative team and/or supervising other investigators may also be required.

This position is based out of Albany, NY and requires occasional travel throughout New York State. Current or prior Law Enforcement experience is preferred but is not required.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
