Preferred Qualifications: Strong statistical and data management skills. Demonstrated experience in data analysis, management, and validation. Proven experience developing statistical programs in SAS, SQL, or R to compose research and reporting databases for the application of higher order analysis. Knowledge of statistical methods and their application for predictive analytics. Experience developing and applying algorithms to link health care data across multiple data sources. Experience with large database management. Proven experience analyzing health care claims data or other administrative data sources. Experience with visualization software such as Tableau is a plus. Excellent communication, organization, and program management skills. Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment.
Duties Description The Research Scientist 3 will work within the Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE) and will participate in and lead in a broad range of research, analysis, reporting, and evaluation activities. The Research Scientist will work under the direction of Bureau and Center management and will perform research and analytical activities including, but not limited to:
Collaborate in problem definition, literature reviews, analytic planning, and identification of public release data needs; Development, calculation, trending and validation of health care quality indicators using all payer data and development of associated datasets for public use; Development and implementation of statistical algorithms to evaluate data robustness and quality; Conduct descriptive and inferential analyses to support Department-wide efforts related to COVID-19, Vital Statistics, maternal and child health, stroke, sepsis, primary care, cardiac care, and any other emerging health priorities; Develop statistical programs to extract, collapse, and analyze data from large data sources and apply iterative matching algorithms to link data; Collaborate with other research scientists and analytical staff on all phases of research and contribute to healthcare policy recommendations based on applied research findings; Assist and direct the preparation of statistical briefs and manuscripts for publication; Supervise and mentor lower-level research staff in the execution of research activities.
