Open Competitive: Seven years of construction inspection experience related to pipelines, substantial structures, dams, breakwaters, bridges, environmental treatment plants, highways, landfills, or hazardous waste and/or petroleum site remediation;
OR,
An associate’s degree in engineering science, civil engineering or civil engineering technology, chemical technology, construction technology, electrical or electrical engineering technology, instrument technology, mechanical or mechanical engineering technology, architectural or architectural engineering technology, and five years of the experience noted above.
OR,

Duties Description Duties/Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will serve as a construction inspector in one of three remedial Bureaus in the Central Office in Albany, for sites in the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP), State Superfund Program (SSF), and the Manufactured Gas Plant Program (MGP). MGP and SSF sites are located statewide, while the BCP sites are primarily in regions 2, 3, 8, and 9.
The candidate will perform construction inspection at remediation sites, review work plans, investigation reports, corrective action plans, and other work products. This position requires extensive travel (95-100%) throughout the State covering projects across all remedial programs. This position requires the use of an air purifying respirator (Level C) over the hazard duty differential of at least 30 days a year for an hour or more per day for each of those 30 days (typical use is higher than this threshold). Use of other Level C personal protective equipment (PPE) is required as appropriate. As such, annual medical monitoring and training in the proper use of PPE, as well as demonstrated proficiency in the use of numerous field testing/monitoring equipment and sampling techniques are required.
The position requires the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including representatives of other Department divisions, other State and Federal agencies, potentially responsible parties, local officials, and the public, as well as environmental consultants and contractors. Must have efficient verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40-hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
