Minimum Qualifications In order to be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates must be able to type at the rate of 30 words per minute, with at least 96% accuracy. Unless waived in accordance with Civil Service procedures, a typing performance test will be administered prior to appointment.
If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional position must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this exam. The provisional candidate must pass the typing performance test prior to appointment.
Duties Description An Office Assistant 1 performs the following duties: answers questions from and provides information to various parties regarding agency activities, transactions and procedures, and refers inquiries to appropriate parties as necessary; operates various communications systems such as telephones and computers and keeps records of such communications; operates and performs basic cleaning and maintenance on office machines and equipment; schedules appointments and meetings using various office tools; and performs routine processing activities, including checking forms for completeness and accuracy.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
