55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and candidates with 55b/c eligibility are encouraged to apply. Candidates must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter and the following minimum qualifications:

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Education Program Assistant 1 position in the Office of Career and Technical Education (CTE). CTE provides students with technical and academic knowledge as well as the skills necessary to succeed in high school and beyond. Participation in CTE can be used as a graduation pathway option for students. The Office of CTE has a role in other areas such as special education, justice-involved youth, school counseling, and data reporting., The Office of CTE oversees the delivery of secondary CTE statewide and provides technical assistance to the field in several areas including instructional practice, NYSED program approval, work-based learning, technical skills assessments, operational requirements, civil rights compliance, and grant administration. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist in the collecting of data by maintaining and creating office databases and files used in the administration of the state and federal grants and NYSED program approvals;
• Prepare reports, application materials, and correspondence using Access 2016, Excel, OneNote, and other MS Office applications; Cognos; and state proprietary systems;
• Proofread team’s written content for accuracy (including checking for outdated references, grammatical errors, and broken web page links);
• Provide direct technical assistance to districts and BOCES in core program work (e.g., locating information on NYSED web pages, answering questions about application components);
• Support cross-office collaborations by tracking project progress, deadlines, assignments;
• Assemble and prepare documentation for audits and other reviews; organizing grant records to show adherence to procedural requirements; and
• Manage on-going maintenance of all web content.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required at the time of interview for all candidates.

This position may be filled as a traineeship. The starting salaries for this position are outlined below. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates appointed at the trainee level will be required to successfully complete the traineeship to advance to the full performance level title and salary.

• $42,883 (Trainee 1- NS equated to SG-11)
• $47,925 (Trainee 2- NS equated to SG-13)
• $50,678 (Full Performance level SG-14)

This position leads to a maximum salary of $64,693 based on annual performance advances and traineeship advances.
