Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Reachable score on the Library Clerk 2 list; or
Permanent appointment with 1 year of service as a Library Clerk 2, or to a title eligible for transfer to Library Clerk 2; or
Appointment as a Library Clerk 2 at UAlbany with less than 1 year of service (remainder of probationary period to be completed in new assignment); or
Be a former state employee eligible for reinstatement to the title of Library Clerk 2

Candidates must be eligible to take and pass the next available Library Clerk 2 promotion exam and obtain a reachable score for possible contingent / permanent appointment.
- Candidates must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a qualifying title (see below).

Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive:
Candidates must be eligible to take and pass the next available Library Clerk 2 open competitive exam and obtain a reachable score for consideration for possible contingent / permanent appointment.
Either 1. Graduated from high school or have earned a high school equivalency diploma AND one year of full time clerical experience in a library setting
Examples of qualifying clerical duties in a library setting may include:
Maintaining circulation record;
Processing acquisitions including the receipt and recording of courier-delivered materials and organizing new items;
Creating and processing interlibrary loan requests (ILL);
Assisting in collection maintenance including; weeding, shifting, re-shelving, repairing, straightening, inventory, supply orders, and emptying book drop containers to be checked in;
Assisting and educating patrons in searching the library catalog;
Assisting patrons in the use of library equipment.
OR 2: thirty (30) semester credit hours of college study including at least nine (9) semester credit hours of college study in a combination of the following areas:
Library / Information Science
May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.

Duties Description Provides lending and access services to library users for a wide range of library materials and resources, including reserves, media, rooms/facilities, and equipment (laptops, cameras, etc.); Trains and directs student employees and new staff in procedures and policies related to circulation desk services; Completes functions for the Department’s daily materials delivery operations; Completes tasks for the Department’s daily collection maintenance functions; Provides basic support for equipment and technology available in library facilities; Performs cash handling duties (making change for users, counting register drawer, taking charge payments) following department and university procedures and best practices; Completes annual training in accordance with university guidelines; Opens/closes library facilities as scheduled; Provides supervision for Access Services operations in the absence of Library Clerk 3 and/or professional staff; Interacts effectively and in a professional manner with peers, supervisors, and other library staff; contributes to interpersonal and working relationships of trust and respect; maintains a courteous and professional manner while interacting with student assistants and library users; promotes the goals and objectives of the Access Services Department and the University Libraries.
