Minimum Qualifications Current Veterans Benefits Advisor 2 interested in lateral transfer or relocation.

Provisional Pending Examination:
Current Veterans Benefits Advisor 1 with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service.

Duties Description • Supervise Veterans Benefits Advisor 1 (VBA1).
• Advise Local Veterans Service Agencies and Veterans Service Organizations and community groups of the Department’s programs.
• Conduct training courses for VBA1s and local service personnel (VSO).
• Act as the liaison between the Department of Veterans Affairs and VA.
• Attend VA hearings as necessary.
• Responsible for claims in your assigned region.
• Represent Department and Commissioner as requested.
• Assign staff to attend and represent the Department for outreach events.
• Ensure that all forms and reports are completed in a timely and comprehensive manner which may include Internal Control Forms or After-Action Reports.
• Maintain and update shared calendars for all work-related activities and appointments.
• Continually update the Case Management System which includes all current activity and new client activity.
• Accreditation by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, through the NYS Department of Veterans’ Services, as an “Agent” pursuant to Section 38 CFR 14.629 is necessary for continued employment.
• Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities.
• Perform other duties and special projects as required.

Additional Comments • Travel may be required (approximately 50%), including during evening and weekends, depending on mission and assignment.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required, or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
