Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience under the supervision of an auto body mechanic or completion of an apprenticeship program and possession of a driver’s license appropriate to the equipment operated and repaired.

Possession and maintenance of a CDL Class B license issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles will be required. Candidates applying without a CDL B license are required to obtain a CDL permit within 30 days of appointment and obtain the license by the end of the probationary period. Failure to do so will result in termination.

Pursuant to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act, pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be required. Once appointed to/selected for the position, random drug and alcohol testing will be required.

Candidates employed in this position will be required to furnish personal hand tools.

Duties Description Under general supervision, performs the tasks of a journey-level Service and Repair Mechanic (Auto Body); repaints equipment owned or maintained by the Thruway Authority, including cleaning, sand blasting, grinding, filling, and priming; does skilled body, fender, and chassis repair; removes damaged chassis parts, straightens frames and other related parts; performs restoration welding; performs fabrication scraping; removes and replaces or repairs body parts such as glass, body panels, upholstery, fenders, running boards, grills, and accessories; supervises helpers, and as required, other journey-level employees engaged in the maintenance and repair of motorized equipment. Maintains necessary time and cost distribution records; requisitions parts and equipment as necessary; maintains and is responsible for a Tool Crib Complement assigned to the Shop, maintains Shop in clean and workable condition; ensures that all equipment and tools are in proper condition; drives passenger cars and trucks as necessary.

13 Paid Holidays, 4 of which are floating holidays, which are credited in July each year for use from July 1st through June 30th.
Vacation, Sick and Personal Accruals.
Sick Leave is credited at the rate of one-half day each biweekly pay period up to a total of 165 days.
Sick Leave Incentive Plan – Employees who have not accumulated 165 sick days and have not used sick leave during the periods of January 1st to June 30th or July 1st to December 31st, each year, may receive two days of pay for each six-month period. Employees who have a sick leave balance of 165 days, and continuously maintain that balance for each six-month period, may receive four days of pay for each six-month period.
Employees with 20+ years of continuous Authority/State service may receive up to an additional five days of vacation leave accruals annually.
Membership in the New York State and Local Retirement System, as well as optional enrollment in the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.
Tuition Assistance Program which reimburses 90% of tuition costs for approved courses up to 15 credit hours per year.
New York's 529 College Savings Program, which provides New York families with a tax-advantaged way to save for college.
Flexible Spending Program, which allows employees to set aside pre-tax payroll deductions for eligible health care and dependent care expenses.
Service Award Payments - Upon completion of 10 years of Authority service, eligible employees will receive a 10-year Service Award Payment. Payments are then awarded every five years as noted in the contract until 30 years of Authority service is reached. Service Awards have a positive impact on retirement.
Employees are paid bi-weekly, with no lag time.
Some positions will be eligible for downstate and/or geographical pay depending on location and title.
