Minimum Qualifications Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Public Health Nutritionist 2, Grade 24.

OR: New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title eligible for transfer to Public Health Nutritionist 2, Grade 24, under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team and handle multiple priorities. They will have experience working in a multi-faceted public health nutrition program, supervisory experience, and excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skills. Additionally, they will have knowledge of maternal and child nutrition; nutritional needs associated with chronic disease and supplemental nutrition programs; familiarity with approaches to policy, systems, and environmental change; and proficiency with computer-based software packages such as Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Duties Description The Public Health Nutritionist (PHN) 2 will provide oversight and support to the Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) and to Chronic Disease Nutrition Programs such as the State Physical Activity and Nutrition Program, Diabetes Program, Creating Healthy Schools and Communities, and Advancing Tobacco Free Communities.

The incumbent will provide leadership for nutrition teams within the Central NY Region, which would include HPNAP, and the Division of Chronic Disease programs. The PHN 2 will function as a liaison to other health and nutrition programs and organizations and will provide nutritional support to the Maternal Child Health program and Public Health Program Nurse staff. The incumbent will provide consultation or technical assistance to local agencies in nutrition policies and monitor the nutrition program standards of contract agencies. This position will provide supervision, guidance, and oversight to subordinate staff and contract managers, including HPNAP Program and Chronic Disease staff.

Additional Comments Full time, permanent appointment. Occasional statewide travel, including overnights and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation is required (10%).
