Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be physically able to perform the duties assigned, including the ability to perform activities requiring medium to heavy lifting. Candidates must also possess a valid New York State driver’s license.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Facilities and Business Services is seeking three (3) candidates for a Facilities Operations Assistant 1 in the Education Building and Education Building Annex. The incumbents of these positions will be responsible for a variety of routine manual tasks, requiring medium to heavy physical effort, frequent work outdoors in inclement weather, use of hand tools, and operation of motor driven equipment. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Empty recyclables and garbage;
• Set up conference rooms;
• Change lightbulbs;
• Remove boxes from the stacks and bring boxes into the stacks;
• Deliver and pickup recycle bins throughout the building and various office;
• Pickup and deliver skids, boxes, and surplus material;
• Deliver copy paper to various offices and locations;
• Bring scrap metal to the scrap yard;
• Clean up and maintain the grounds, including salting, shoveling snow, plowing snow, mowing lawns, and pulling weeds;
• Move furniture boxes and other heavy equipment and material;
• Prepare cars for staff and drive staff as needed;
• Work with all trades as directed, and
• Perform other duties as needed.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of a valid New York State driver’s license will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. Candidates are required to possess a valid New York State driver’s license at the time of hire. Continued employment as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 is dependent upon maintaining a valid New York State driver’s license. Failure to maintain a valid New York State driver’s license will result in removal from employment. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday 7:00am-3:00pm.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $42,251 based on annual performance advances.
