Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Duties Description The incumbent’s primary duties are within the Harriman Group Camps. The incumbent will:
• Have four or more fulltime years of operating machinery and equipment including but not limited to backhoes, skid steers, front end loaders, and excavators.
• This candidate will operate this equipment in a safe and proficient manner.
• Aside from operating equipment, knowledge of greasing, lubricating and daily maintenance is a must.
• Knowledge and experience to perform minor repairs in the field.
• Apply skills and knowledge in carpentry to make structural building repairs, replace and repair roofs, replace siding and shingles, build steps and landings, repair or replace doors and windows, and frame partitions.
• This person will also assist lake foreman and other camp department personnel perform a variety of other maintenance, repair and installation tasks, including jobs in the carpentry, plumbing, electrical and masonry trades.
• Have the ability to use hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the craft or crafts to which assigned.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be able to work independently and understand and carry out instructions, including those in writing.
• Must have the training necessary to work off scaffolding and extension ladders at various heights.
• Will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in difficult site terrains, including in remote areas of the park.
• Must have a knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other building crafts.
• Must be knowledgeable of the use of personal protective equipment and capable of following appropriate safety standards.
• Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B** that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. Assistance and use of equipment will be provided.
