Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics), Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason & Plasterer), Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter), Service & Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R), Trades Specialist (Roofing), or Trades Specialist (Welder). This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver's license required.
OPERATING NEEDS:
Supervisory experience preferred, and the ability to assess employee skill sets, provide training and direct oversight and daily management of the staff of the Plumbing Shop and the AS Equipment Repair Shop which include Trades Generalists, Trades Specialists (Plumber & Steamfitter) and Maintenance Assistants; experience with "hands-on" support of the facilities plumbing tasks such as inspecting, testing and repairing of sprinkler systems, fire pumps and hydrants and inspecting, testing and repairing of various water supply systems and drainage systems including irrigation systems; ability to procure materials and supplies following state guidelines, creating and implementing service contracts and material contracts on an as-needed basis; Experience implementing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, prioritizing and distributing work requests, tracking all work and support using a computerized maintenance management system, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and the ability to utilize spreadsheets; ability to provide all support within budgetary guidelines and submit yearly budget requests and timely budgets reports on day-to-day operations; ability to work with diverse groups including the student population, Residential Life staff, Physical Plant staff, Budget Office, Vendors, The University at Albany Foundation, and maintenance staff; Valid NYS Driver's License required.
Duties Description Job Purpose: This position is responsible for direct oversight and daily management of the staff of the Plumbing Shop and the UAS Equipment Repair Shop.
Tasks:
The tasks associated with this position are wide ranging and include but are not limited to:
• Dealing with the student population, Residential Life staff, Physical Plant staff, Budget Office, Vendors, The University at Albany Foundation, and the maintenance staff.
• The procurement of materials and supplies following state guidelines, creating and implementing service contracts and material contracts on an as-needed basis, directly supervision and mentoring for the maintenance staff which include Trade Specialists, General Mechanics, Plumber Steamfitters, and Maintenance Assistants.
• The implementation of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, Prioritize and distribute work request, track all work, and support within a computer maintenance management system and generate computer driven reports.
• Provide all support with-in a budgetary guideline and submit yearly budget requests and timely budgets reports on the day-to-day operations.
Although generally supervisory in nature this position will also require trade expertise and hands-on support of the facilities. Such as but not limited to:
• Providing the necessary training to continue to improve the skill sets of subordinates and help develop moral.
• Inspect, test and repair of RPZ’s, sprinkler systems, fire pumps and hydrants. Inspect, test and repair of various water supply systems and drainage systems. Including irrigation systems.
Supervisory duties include:
• the daily use of the AiM work order system
• prioritizing and scheduling work and responding to emergencies
• Daily supervision of staff and timely submission of performance programs and evaluations to HR
• Managing deadlines for project work
• Following proper purchasing procedures for materials and supplies
