Minimum Qualifications There are no education or experience requirements. Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Applicants must also be able to communicate effectively with other staff and with park patrons.
Duties Description The incumbent will work under the direction of the Park Manager at Lake Erie State Park. The incumbent will perform the following duties:
• Report directly to the Park Worker 3 at Sunset Bay under the direction of the Lake Erie Park Manager.
• Assist with supervision, training, scheduling, and evaluation of seasonal staff.
• Assist in dock installation and removal, dock maintenance, and daily inspections.
• Maintain grounds and facility building maintenance, including but not limited to snow removal, mowing, and cleaning.
• Participate in maintenance of the Sunset Bay and Dunkirk break walls, to include cable inspection/maintenance, graffiti removal, marking of trip hazards, and brush removal.
• Participate in and occasionally lead facility and tailgate trainings.
• Assist in preparing daily/weekly attendance & revenue reports, expenditure records, employee paperwork, special event permits, and marina transient rentals.
• Complete assigned weekly and/or monthly reports.
• Assist in obtaining and maintaining annual slip holder required documentation through direct contact with those patrons.
• Enforce Marina rules and regulations, informing the Park Ranger/Police and management of any incidents.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor under demanding conditions.
• Assist in emergency situations and participate in emergency response drills with staff.
• Operate and maintain various machinery including, but not limited to: chainsaws, mowers, UTVs, tractors, boats.
• Assist in performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair work within the facility: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.
• Assist with operations at Lake Erie State Park as needed during the off-season, including but not limited to, risk tree removal, snow removal, and cabin repairs/maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be available to work a variable schedule that will include holidays, evening shifts, and/or weekends year-round.
• Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to work in a team setting.
• Must demonstrate an ability to adapt to changing operational needs.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor in a variety of weather conditions and terrain.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.
• Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently in a highly responsible manner.
• As a term and condition of employment, if not already possessed, the following must be obtained within the probationary period:
o An approved Boater Safety certificate
o First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
o Game of Logging 1 and 2 Chainsaw certification
o NYS Parks: UTV, Mower, tractor, chipper, stump grinder, and Lock out/Tag out/Electrical Safety trainings.
