Minimum Qualifications for appointment to Climate Policy Analyst Trainee 1, NS:
A Bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, biology, chemistry, coastal resources management, communications, ecology, economics, ecosystem management, engineering, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies, forestry, geography, geology, hydrology, marine science, meteorology, natural resources, natural science, physical science, physics, planning, public administration, public policy, public policy and management, sustainability, transportation planning, wildlife science, or zoology
For appointment at the Trainee 2 level you must also have:
Either 1. a master's degree or higher in atmospheric science, biology, chemistry, coastal resources management, communications, ecology, economics, ecosystem management, engineering, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies, forestry, geography, geology, hydrology, marine science, meteorology, natural resources, natural science, physical science, physics, planning, public administration, public policy, public policy and management, sustainability, transportation planning, wildlife science, or zoology; OR
2. one year of professional experience in the establishment of environmental policy; preparing, implementing, or reviewing climate relevant policies, plans, projects, regulations or environmental impact statements; preparing climate-relevant materials involving environmental matters; or professional testimony for use in hearings or trials involving environmental matters; or preparing environmental analysis of climate change issues.
For the Full Performance Level you must also have:

TRAINEE 1: A Bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, biology, chemistry, coastal resources management, communications, ecology, economics, ecosystem management, engineering, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies, forestry, geography, geology, hydrology, marine science, meteorology, natural resources, natural science, physical science, physics, planning, public administration, public policy, public policy and management, sustainability, transportation planning, wildlife science, or zoology
TRAINEE 2: A bachelors as noted above and one year of professional qualify experience.
Climate Policy Analyst 1: A bachelor's as noted above and two years of qualifying experience.
Qualifying Experience: in the establishment of environmental policy; preparing, implementing, or reviewing climate relevant policies, plans, projects, regulations or environmental impact statements; preparing climate-relevant materials involving environmental matters; or professional testimony for use in hearings or trials involving environmental matters; or preparing environmental analysis of climate change issues.
NOTE: a Juris Doctor, Master’s, or higher degree in a related field can substitute for one year of professional experience
Duties Description The Office of Climate Change (OCC) is filling two positions in the greenhouse gas (GHG) Mitigation Bureau to support the implementation of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). The CPA 1 may support development of GHG inventories and/or policies and programs to reduce GHG emissions. The CPA1 may be directed to research and report on environmental and energy policy, review data, analyze problems and recommend solutions, communicate with staff from other programs and agencies, engage with stakeholders, and provide written and oral responses to public inquiries. Specific duties may include assisting in development of the state GHG inventory, tracking of contracts, state and federal policy, and environmental reviews such as CLCPA Section 7.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
